Great food, great fun, great sites, and even greater people: When you think of The Big Apple, these are the first things that come to mind. With this in mind, we’re so excited to partner with the iconic Empire State Building to showcase our freshly baked pies — which have become a timeless NYC staple in their own right! — in celebration of Black History Month.
Little Pie Company was founded by Arnold Wilkerson, a young Black man from California who left everything behind to move to New York City to pursue his dreams of being on Broadway. Unsurprisingly, Arnold took advantage of every opportunity afforded to him — both on and off stage. In fact, that’s how he came to start Little Pie Company in his NYC apartment back in 1985.
While Arnold’s love of baking stems from fondly watching his grandmother chop up fresh apples to make apple pie, he was entirely self-taught. The not-so-secret recipe to his success? Good ‘ol fashioned hard work and perseverance: and we’re especially proud to celebrate that this Black History Month.
Today, the Pie Company has evolved into a destination in and of itself, beloved by locals and tourists alike for its made-from-scratch pies featuring fresh, local ingredients to tantalize every taste bud.
While New York has certainly changed over the years, both the world-renowned Empire State Building and Little Pie Company continue to delight travelers of all ages from all around the world. Plus, the city’s enduring spirit continues to live on.
So, what’re you waiting for? Take home a little slice of The Big Apple today to celebrate life’s sweetness!
