Little Pie Company Cares: Here’s How We’re Prioritizing Sustainability
A lot has changed since we first set up shop in New York City’s Theater District back in 1985 — for one, we now have something called Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (by the way, are you following us?) — however, our delicious pies and pastries have remained the same thanks to our dedicated bakers and the use of local, high-quality ingredients. With this in mind, we recently decided to bring Little Pie Company into the twenty-first century and determine how to operate our small business to be more eco-conscious. In short, we want you to know that we care deeply about the environment, which is why we’ve taken some time to reflect as a company and understand ways in which we can continue offering excellent baked goods while also playing an active role when it comes to sustainability.
While the oven we were using since our establishment got the job done, they consumed lots — and we mean lots — of fuel. Fortunately, technology has come a long way since the ’80s, so we conducted some research and purchased two of the world’s most innovative ovens — from MIWE and Sveba-Dahlen –both of which are designed to improve baking performance while simultaneously saving energy and reducing our carbon footprint — all without sacrificing flavor or quality. What’s more, we take tremendous pride in being the first bakery in Manhattan to introduce these baking wonders and invite you to share in our excitement. But, we didn’t stop there. Instead, we reflected on additional ways to incorporate sustainability efforts into our small-but-mighty bakery. That’s why we decided to add LED lighting, which has a longer lifespan than traditional lightbulbs, which, in turn, means lower carbon emissions. We also replaced our old air-conditioning units with ones that are more energy-efficient. We’ve also begun producing and selling biodegradable and reusable tote bags, which are designed to last for seasons on end.
Our owner, Arnold Wilkerson is deeply passionate about giving back to the environment through these sustainability efforts, adding that, “our purpose on earth is to give something of ourselves to make life better for future generations.” Moreover, we are excited to put this philosophy into motion as we continue serving you.
